The Landmark London was originally opened as The Great Central Hotel in 1899 with 700 bedrooms and was the last of the great Victorian railway hotels constructed during ‘the golden age of steam’
The designers wanted it to surpass all previous establishments in terms of opulence and luxury and this can still be said today with its high Victorian ceilings, marble archways and stunning art décor.
We headed through the grand entrance and were greeted with a warm reception and after a quick, hassle free check in we were given a guided tour of the hotel. It is a spectacular sight and as you walk through the hotel the grand and elegant surroundings impress. The Winter Garden is at the heart of the hotel, with a stunning eight-storey glass roof atrium. Open throughout the day for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner this is truly a unique setting for any occasion. On the next level up you find a vast array of designer shops all the way round the side, offering a wide variety of shopping and beauty options. The Mirror Bar is in keeping with the hotel’s Victorian heritage offering intimacy and style for pre-dinner cocktails or a late-night drink. In The Landmark’s Spa and Health Club you will find a tasteful area with treatment rooms, a sanarium, gym, a Jacuzzi and a stunning 15-metre chlorine-free swimming pool. With a relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff to hand it is a superb addition to the hotel.
After the impressive tour we were shown to our suite, The Marylebone suite and after ensuring we were happy, our very helpful informative guide left us to settle in. The suite was filled with superb elegance and luxurious features. With 60 square metres we had a grand but comfortable living area which is separated from the bedroom by large frosted sliding doors. The bedroom was large for London standards offering plenty of space and storage. A stylish, classic room with a grand décor of duck egg and cream, plus floor to ceiling curtains. The bedroom lead onto the large, marble bathroom with a bathtub and walk-in shower, which was a delightful rainforest shower with luxurious toiletries. With added extras such as a Nespresso machine and an ihome system we soon settled in. With the addition of using a new app to order room service or make requests it was a modern and efficient way of making sure we had everything we could need and with a couple of random requests thrown in to test the modern app we were not disappointed.
After a peaceful nights sleep in our comfortable king size bed we head down for breakfast. Again we were greeted with warmth by all the staff we passed. As you walk through the hotel you get a feeling of tranquillity, despite being in the middle of the hustle and bustle of London in a large hotel with many guests, it certainly does not reflect that. Arriving in the ever impressive Winter Garden for breakfast we were shown to our table and served an array of morning tea, coffee and juices. Breakfast is a help yourself affair but this in no means compromises on quality of food. Eggs Benedict, which were held in a hot serving dish, tasted mouth-wateringly fresh and were cooked to perfection as much so as anything I have been served straight from a kitchen. The breakfast options were endless, from sweet and savoury, freshly made smoothies, a chef’s station offering fluffy omelettes or crispy crepes and every possible breakfast option you could imagine, I challenge anyone to require a breakfast request that you cannot find at The Landmark London! We sampled many of the options and every single one was faultless, fresh and delicious.
